Patrick Jellum

Learning Development Specialist

Experience

Patrick Jellum graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a special education degree in 1986, and has been a force in the education ever since. He has made it his mission to help students receive a thorough education in the public sector as well as incorporate his interest in sports into his career.

His first position was with the Nebraska Public School system for four and a half years. Jellum then worked in Iowa as a teacher/counselor and special education case manager for the spring semester before teaching full-time. He taught basic grammar and life skills, but also updated and monitored IEPs for students assigned to special education programs. On a monthly basis, this number averaged to twenty-five students.

Jellum returned to the Nebraska City Public School system that summer. Not only was he a special education teacher, but he was active in the community. Jellum implemented vocational training classes and on the job training for career awareness for students within the school at large. He coached football, wrestling, and volleyball during his time there, as well.

After four years with the Nebraska City Public School system, Jellum took a brief break from teaching and switched gears over to coaching and athletics full-time. Upon his return to the classroom, Jellum found employment with the East Grand School District. He taught special education with mild to moderate high school students in all grades. He also served as the head coach of the school’s soccer and wrestling programs while in Middle Park, always excited to take on additional responsibilities. Jellum received the Metropolitan Coach of the Year in Wrestling award in both 2004 and 2006. He was awarded the Metropolitan Coach of the Year in Soccer award in 2007 and was also chosen as the assistant coach for the 2001 Wrestling State championship team.

He has taught in the Adams School District in Thornton, CO, as a special education teacher for mild-moderate students in grades 9-12 since the 2008-2009 academic year. For his twenty-six students there, Jellum maintained records of progress in academics, behaviors, and social areas. Additionally, and something he is very proud of, Jellum also managed to implement a reading development program, and is working towards a transition program for students currently on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). He wears many hats in his current position, as well, from co-teaching Algebra to teaching all levels of English, science, and social studies. Jellum also took on the role of assistant coach for the soccer and wrestling teams.

Jellum is a licensed teacher in the state of Colorado. Additionally, he maintains coaching endorsements in wrestling, football, and soccer. He is also certified in Instructional Decision Making, Colorado I.D.E.A and Section 504, and trained as a reading specialist from Lindamood/Bell and Excent Computerized I.E.P Training and Transition training. Jellum remains a passionate educator to this day.
